oil question
oil question
all right lately i have been checking my oil and it has been showing a quart or more over where it was when i changed my oil 1000 miles ago. could this be where the oil drain pipe from the turbo has a leak and letting the oil drain back to the pan, or is this a leak in the engine
.
but it really worries me because i have a really bad leak on the oil drain line of my turbo where i didnt get the old gasket completely i believe
.and my oil pressure gauge shows normally just on the first line, but then again i think the sendors broke as well

If the engine is "making" oil, smell the oil and see if it smells like diesel. If it does, change the lift pump and the oil. If the problem persists, the injection pump front seal is gone.
alright if im going to change the pump, how much more is it to go to a p-pump and what would be the pros/cons/price difference.and would some of this probably point a finger towards the ULSD
Dave meant change the lift pump, not the injection pump. The diaphram in the lift pump can rupture, sending fuel into the crankcase. The other seal Dave mentioned is on the injection pump, but is affordable and not hard to change--no need to jump ship and p-pump your rig just yet
FWIW, the cost to switch to a p-pump is about what the average d-250 is worth, unfortunately. The good news is, with a set of good injectors and enough air, our weenie little VE's can make enough power to break anything downstream of the crankshaft with relative ease

The piston pump is roughly 3 times the price. If you don't plan on bigger injectors a stock replacement pump is fine.
I'd place more blame on the lift pump being 15 years old than on ULSD.

You can pull the oil fill tube and elbow, pump the primer lever on the lift pump, and watch for fuel running down behind the pump gear. You need a mirror and a flashlight. You may have to rotate the engine some to get one of the windows in the pump gear in the right spot.
A stock replacement lift pump can be had for under $40, I would just throw one at, change the oil, and see what happens. At 15 years and 230k the old lift pump doesn't owe you anything.

Price went up.
It'll still be under $50 shipped though.
