oil pressure loss at high rpm
oil pressure loss at high rpm
Hi,
Today I noticed doin 85 down the road in 5th the oil pressure was sitting on L!!!
Took my foot out of it and watched it a bit, seems to drop consistently at high rpms. Doesnt matter which gear, and always above about 2200 rpm. Oil is full on the dip stick. The sender is new last year.
Besides telling me to check with a mechanical gauge, is there anything internal that would cause this?
Thanks

The only thing I can think of that would give you less pressure at high RPM is restricted oil drains in the head - but I don't think you could put enough oil in the rocker boxes to uncover the pickup. I would put a real gauge on it before I turned a screw to look inside the rocker covers.
Thats what I thought too man... Those things hold a butt load of oil...
It only happened when it was super hot out yesterday, so im gonna keep a close eye on it today.
Where does one usually hook up an oil pressure gauge? Tee off the stock sender hole?

That, or the oil filter mount. There's a spare port there:

The one on the left side of that "tee" goes to my bypass filter, and the one on the right goes to an oil pressure gauge.

You guys are all right... Something about these new parts that i keep having troubles with lol...
Oil pressure sat on "L" for the last little bit and she hasnt blown up yet... Guess its time for a mechanical hangin from the top of the dashboard...

I remember when I bought my old first gen a few years ago. I flew into LA and bought it and was driving it home and I noticed the oil pressure dropping as I drove! Let off the throttle and it went back up, back into the throttle and back down. Had me worried pretty good since it was full of oil. Anyway, the sending unit was junk and in all honesty, the gauge itself is pretty junky.

It sounds like the sending unit but I have seen too much oil in the crankcase do the same thing, the crank hits the oil and gets it all filled with air bubbles and you lose oil pressure.
