No O/D, Long trip ahead...

on my way home this morning, crusin along about 75+ MPH, all of a sudden i lose overdrive and the speedo! i instantly thought the truck died till i glanced at the tach. it got that quiet... Anyways, this weekend i am planning on makin a road trip to the sweetwater tenn. region. im not really worried about the speedo, but would love to have O/D at least. the sending unit/drive thingy is still hooked on and atttached to the side of the transfer case(had that issue in the past).
So my question is, since the transmission is kind of electronically controlled, is there any wire or quick fix that can be done to get O/D?
Thanks!

You can just run the od with a toggle switch. I forget which wire is which but the one is hot all the time and the other is ground. If you ground that wire you will get od. Do you have cruise or ac? Does that stuff work?

Check the electrical connection for the vss on the trans. I has the same trouble and I cleaned the connection and used dielectric grease and havent had a problem since. What ever it is when you get one problem fixed it will also fix the other problem. With out a working speedo you will not have od.

There is a 2 wire plug that points up at the drivers floor. the rear most wire is a blue wire. That is ur pwr wire, the front wire, maybe grn with orange tracer. Shave some insulation off, wrap a wire around it. Run it to one side of a toggle switch, run the other to ground. Flip switvh when o.d is needed. Unflip when ur coming to a stop. That should get you throught the weekend.

Just went through this a couple weeks ago, my speed sensor was toast. Took it off the adapter and the shaft was rounded off. Died just like that too, bombing down the highway and kaput, no more O/D or speedo. Cost about $35 for a new one at Advance Auto.
