New to the board have a question.

I am looking at a 1993 1 ton dual wheel Diesel truck. I have always liked the trucks and have a 1984 D50. <----Dont laugh. Anyways the truck is in very good condition has about 170,000 miles on it. The tranny was rebuilt at one point in its life. The owner never pulled anything with it do not know if this is good or bad. My question is should I walkaway from a clean truck with this kind of milage on it or do you think it still has allot of life left. My D50 only has 65,000 miles on it and runs like a top. I would just love to have a bigger truck so that I can have a rig worthy of pulling or hauling thing from time to time.
The owner wants $8500.00 for the truck I would say it is and 8.5 out of 10 on a scale of 1-10.
Drove the truck and other then being a little stiff it drives very well.
Oh yeah its also a 4x4 and has no mods at all stock with auto.
Thank you
Lance Seattle, WA.

If the truck seems to be in good shape, don't let the mileage scare you. I bought mine at 208,000. The Cummins will outlast the truck if it receives reasonable care.

Re:New to the board have a question.

Wanna the truck has been driven a couple times a month and kept in a garage for the past 2 years. The owners brother passed away 2 years ago leaving it to him. He already has a 1ton himself and has put this truck out over the past 2 weeks with a for sale sign in it. From what he tells me and I kinda know him a little he is a neighbor the truck has been taken care of very well. He had a file folder full of maintance recipts from the dealer. I have pretty much told him I am going to buy it and am coming up with the money to purchace it I just thought I would ask some of you that own them.
Sounds like a truk to buy. I'd beat him up on the $$$ a little But if someone took the time to keep maintaince records then they must have been particular.
Lots of stuff to do to make more power and not at a heavy $$$. Good power to $$$ ratio as far as Mods go
Buy it -Be Happy ;D

Re:New to the board have a question.

I'd go for it. Mine had 178,000 with newer transmission. I had to do the brakes. Turbo gave. Put new tires on and everything else in my sig. I'm sure the turbo went as it was probably driven by just about every employee of the contractor I got it from. I drive 150 miles or better everyday and love the truck. Gonna be selling my Camry so I can dump that money (especially the full coverage insurance) into restoring the rest of the truck. Good luck.
Don

Sounds like a real gem you found there... I would take it and yes, you can do alot without getting into new parts to up the power.. I'm still with stock everything except exhaust and run up with most of the newer stock rigs out there...Buy that sucker before someone else does!!

J-eh

Re:New to the board have a question.

I will be buying the truck the owner removed the signs for me. He has just had it sitting in his drive way with a for sale sign residental. No adds no nothing. He was asking 10,000 for it but I talked him down to $8500.00 Again I think you guys will shake youe head wondering how I got such a great deal the thing has origanal good paint has never had a trailer hit mounted and has been well taken care off. I also noticed in the bills they had replaced the injector pump about 20,000 miles ago looks good there.
Re:New to the board have a question.

Congratulations on your purchase. The best thing about these trucks is the Cummins engine. Now if this were a Ford or Gm with 170,000 miles on the engine I would say that is not good, but on the Cummins it is just broken in.
---
Al

Re:New to the board have a question.

That mileage is nothing if it has been maintained like you say. Most of these engines don't start to run real well till about 100000 or so. That price is not too bad for a 10 year old truck. I believe you will enjoy it but look out for the bomb bug now. He's everywhere, he's everywhere.
