this is new
today i was @ home depot , went to back out of the parking space ,when i put the truck in reverse it just cut off , everything died , turn the switch off and it restarted , put it back in reverse and died again, this time it didn't restart , so under the hood i go , lookin around for a minute then i heard a click like a relay resettin, tried it again and fired right up and been running flawless ever since. although i do notice that when i shift into R that the voltmeter pulls down. what in the world would cause this. and what would be drawing power in reverse?
Re:this is new
your reverse lights but i can't see that killing the truck. Have someone stand back there and see if they work when you shift into reverse? That's all i can think of. They may be grounding out somewhere.

Ok, I REALLY SUCK at electrical stuff but you need some action on this one so...here goes...
Check the relays on the drivers fender. There should be at least three of them. I can't recal which is which but check the connections.
Next check the connections on the battery. If the battery is bad or has one bad cell it will cause this.
Next the manifold heater sensor may be triggering your heater block on the intake manifold. Is it getting cold in your area??
Is your idle high enough?? It should be rougly 775-850 RPM in gear (for an auto) and 750 - 775'ish for a 5 spd.
Make sure that the shifter linkage is not pinching any wires causing a short.
The clicking is obviously a relay so start with those and go through them all.
