Need Tranny Info

Hey all. I was wondering if anyone could help me with this. My 5 speed Getrag always made a deep growling sound only when backing up. Now I hear it when going real slow forward in second gear. Possibly the throw out bearing? If not I think that, I think taht it is also on its way out. Does anyone here now of a good tranny shop close to Abilene Texas? I dont want just anyone trying to fix it and charge me an arm and a leg for it and it still not be fixed. Some one reputable. I know that yall have all the info I need so thanks for your replys in advance. Bull Also about how much does it cost to get the front end reworked. From the bear bones to all the way through? Any one know of someone close to me that can get it done and at a fair price. Thanks again. Bull

Have you tried draining the tranny and doing the 1quart over fill? I know it did miracles for mine! for the 25 bucks wasted if it dont work, its a good try instead of a grand if it does work.

Are you 4 wheel drive or 2?

Sorry about that Cowboy. My truck is 2 wheel drive and I have over filled the trans by 1 qt. No luck there. I just wish I was more mech inclined at these sort of things. I get the help I need here, but I never can really help anyone with there probs because there usually way over my head. Anyway thanks for your help. Mike

Sounds like you have a bad bearing inside the trans. If you take care of it soon, the parts cost will be around $400 for bearings and synchros.

I'd hate to guess what a total front suspension rebuild would cost down where you are. Prices are probably lower there and my guess might spook you.
