Need some suggestions for wiring my truck for a trailer/brake controller

I'm at the point now where my truck is almost ready for a trailer. It came with an old Tekonsha brake controller that I don't plan on reusing, since I have a nice new swappable Prodigy from my '03. However, the wiring in general on the '90 is pretty screwed up, and I'd rather not reuse anything the previous owners did. The fuse panel also leaves a lot to be desired! A separate question is where is the stock fuse panel supposed to go? Mine has been hanging down by the brake pedal since I bought the truck.

Basically I'd like all of my trailer wires to be fused in their own panel under the hood (I have had so many wiring problems with that trailer and I want the truck end of the wiring to be PERFECT). Despite it being 25 feet at least from the hood to the end of the flatbed on the truck I'm still planning on getting some heavy-duty jacketed trailer wiring to run back there.

Mainly looking for advice on which wires to splice into for the relays, what kind of fuse panel can I get, etc.

Thanks!

The fuse panel clips onto the trim panel under the steering column.

Most brake controllers suggest wiring directly to the battery to prevent brake failure due to a blown fuse. I always wiring the power and ground directly to the battery and I use a 30 amp circuit breaker (never a fuse)on the power wire to the controller. Then wire directly to the brake light switch and usually blue wire out to the trailer plug for electric brakes.

My '03 has one of those big square fuses for that, but I would use a circuit breaker for all of them, yeah.
