In Need of Some Expertease
In Need of Some Expertease
Today my friend bought an 89 4x4 3/4, auto, regular cab for 4000 Canadian. It has 164000kms on it which isn't bad at all(just breaks 100 000miles).
Anyhow he got it home and ended up with a few issues. First, the headlights didn't work, one tail-light didn't work and everytime you put it in reverse it threw a fuse. That all went well but we can't figure the reverse deal as of yet. Next, we put a new fuse in one of the slots that controls the interior lights and ended up with constant seat buckle, wait to start and water in fuel lights. Turns out both sides of that fuse slot have all-time power. If you remove the fuse, you fix the problem and everything 'dash-wise' works normal. But if you remove that fuse the radio stops working. Why I'm not sure. There were also a few other things that were not properly wired under the hood and dash so I removed what I could. Someone even wired the ignition wire off the bulkhead onto the air heater relay. Personally, I thought that was special. There were also a few other wires that were out of place there as well. There's a large (8 guage maybe) power wire that T's into 5 other wires right on the inner fender. I figure this ignition wire should be connected to this T-connector but I'm unsure. If someone could give me a list, IN ORDER, of all the wires that branch off that rubber T connector and their purpose, it would be appreciated.
Another interesting factor is, when you have the hood up and start it, all you see is a large puff of BLACK smoke. I'm figuring the exhaust manifold gaskets to be blown. No big deal.
BTW, I love these old trucks but man she needed some cleanin. Once she had some TLC though, she cleanen up good
PS, The pumps a virgin
