did I screw it up?

Hello, as some of you know I am having a starting issue with my 93 ram. If it sits overnight it wont start unless you hold the pedal to the floor. But pops right off after the first start and if it doesnt sit too long. Some things I plan on checking are the lift pump (maybe stuck check valve) and for sucking air. Well I started thinking (since I have to wait another week before I can work on it) the truck popped right off without even touching the pedal before I went into the afc to turn the fuel cone. In that process I found the fuel pin stuck. So while I was trying to free the pin with penetrating oil I was working the throttle shaft quite a few times to try to get the pin to pop loose. I must of worked it 50 to 60 times pretty fast. Could I of screwed something up in the injection pump or do you think this is just a coincidence? Is there anything in the afc I could of screwed up that could cause these symptoms? Thanks again for your help.

I can't help you with this cus i don't now but there was a compleat exploded view of our pump and i thought that it had been put in the "how to Look here first" but can't find it If some on as this, that you could look at, it might help to deside if there was any thing in there that could be you problem.............My gess is still air being sucked in by the fuel trying to go back to the tank.............if you had a full tank and there was a leak in the suction line some ware i would thing that the extended crank would be shortined and mybe evan show you leak?

How a bought pointing the truck down hill w/full tank of fuel?

just throing ideas out there.

There's nothing you could have hurt that would cause it not to start.

Hello wannadiesel, nothing in the pump I could of hurt that would make it lose prime? It just seems odd that it started doing it right after I fixed the fuel pin and was working the throttle pretty hard. Thanks

Make sure you didn't knock the wire off of the shutoff solenoid.

Nope. You weren't even in anywhere that there's fuel. There was a lot less load on the governor parts than when you've got it floored at 2500 RPM. The governor spring limits the amount of force you can put on anything in there.

Thanks wannadiesel, it must just be a coincidence then.
mhuppertz, thats another thing that I was thinking about. I know I bumped one of the connectors but I pushed it down to make sure it was connected. I was also wandering if I maybe bumped the manual shutdown lever a little. Would that cause these symptoms? Thanks

The manual shutdown lever has a pretty good spring on it, but I suppose of there is enough paint and or corrosion on it maybe it could stick. Just pull it all the way and let it snap back a few times. It should bottom pretty hard on the limit tang.
