The $X$ shift indicator wire. The sensor is located on top of the 205.

The 4x4 shift indicator wire is still connected. The wire that is hanging down is next to the transmission. I just checked

I just followed this wire up into the plug that is right behind the turbo. It is the bigest wire of the 4. The other 3 are connected to the transmission.

The only wires going down to the trans area. Should be a 12volt feed wire for the netural saftey and backup lights. That should be three of the wires. The 4X4 indicator wire should be the 4th wire. Your truck uses a speedo cable so it doesn't have anything for a VSS.

The only other L ended sensor wire I can think of is the temp sending unit up by the upper raditor hose.

does anybody else have this wire? The transmission had to be pulled once for a new flexplate but that was all that was done. This wire is driving me nuts. This wire feeds up into the plug that has 4 wires and it is by the turbo.

I think you are on the right track. If the wire in question is black then it is for the manual getrag. The br/yl wire completes the circuit for neutral start and the white and vt/bk are the backup light circuit. Ill try to find what the black wire does on the getrag unless someone chimes in.

the wire is either black or blue with a white stripe. Not 100% sure on the color it is covered in everything and i wiped what i could off with my hand and thats the color that i saw.
