major differences between 89 and 92-93
i have been trying for quite a while to find a resonably priced first gen CTD and i cant seem to do it but there is a 89 in my area that i think i could get for around three thousand im just wondering if i should wait and pay more for a 92-93 model to get the nv4500 intercooler and new grill or will the 89 be ok
thanks for any input

Unless you plan to do major towing (15K or more BEHIND the truck) or hot rodding, you should be ok from a mechanical standpoint. Get gauges, bump your timing a tad, and you're good to go.
You can put a NV4500 in an 89 as well. I think the grille is a bolt on item- you'll also need the trim piece between the bumper and grille, too. Plus, you can go with a 2nd gen intercooler if the need for one arises. You'll ahve to cut and fabricate anyway....

89-early 91:
Non-intercooled, autos where 3 speed with 3.07:1 gears, injector tips are 9mm diameter, turbo is known as a 'baby' H1C with its smaller compressor, injector pump is slightly different from an I/C model and the line routing is different, radiator is no a crossflow design like the I/C models. No computer controls.
91.5 to 93:
Intercooled, autos where 4 speed overdrive, injector tips are 7mm in diameter, turbo compressor is slightly larger and plumbed for the intercooler, front clip is different to make room for the intercooler, radiator is both bigger and of a crossflow design. Has a simple PCM that controls cruise, overdrive in the auto if equiped, air intake head, tach, speedo, and thats about it.

that pretty much sum it up!
for that price i would jump on it......as-long as it is in decent shape and runs go.
evan the 89 you can wake up the eng a lot with free, miner tweaking!
