lookin for new tranney
lookin for new tranney
I'm looking to get a new tranny for a 92 first gen 2 wheel drive. Had a 3 speed with over drive. I finished it off last week, busted the converter i think, but the bell housing was all ready cracked. Looking to put in a standard but other than that, I don't know. Just want something I cant tare up. Mileage would be nice for I go from TX to VA about three times a year. I am willing to put in the time and money for a bullet proof tranny. Any advice would be well appreciated. Will.

A quick search on here should reveal ALOT of helpful info for you, this question is asked quite frequently. Whats your budget like?
An NV4500 swap is pretty straightforward, you would need bellhousing adapter, clutch pedals, hydraulics, cut the hump for shifter, etc.

Thanks Chaikwa!
I was going to post an answer earlier, but I was dazed after trying to read that rambling post with the spelling so bad I could hardly get the drift.
Yeah, a quick search of "5 speed swap" or something of that like, should give you hours of good reading

Don't know how you could break the bell housing unless you never maintain anything and let it flop on loose bolts for thousands of miles.
The 518 (46RH), mild build and a tighter torque converter will take 400 hp all day. More with some tougher parts. Good oil cooling is critical to longevity.
With a 6BT engine and a little sloppy maintenance, you can tear up anything behind it in short order.

I bought truck little over a year ago it was not took care of at all. It was bought 3/4 a gallon low on tranney fluid. i more or less bought a motor and beat up body. I had it took to a shop to get over drive back spent just over 2 grand and it only lasted 1800 miles. I dont know any thing about the insids of a transmision. I am willing to pay up tp 6 or 7 for a good one l. I jusy dont know what a good one is.

Hey, j just an fyi I read post after post with you just talking down to people, being condescending and not giving them any help. This place is for help ! And advice, I have read plenty of questions from you and don't recall people tearing you down. So maybe instead of being a " wise guy " about everything give some useable input, and yes if it bothers me I can just skip the post but this is alittle old ! Thanks in advance.

I'm sure he's just tired of seeing the same old questions asked time and time again, as some of us are just too lazy to do a simple search prior to asking questions. It's really helpful if the same folks do a "Pre-read" of what they hell they write as to not babble on with incoherent sentences that need to be "reworked" or "decoded" by admin.... just to be legible.
If you show others respect by proof reading and pre-searching / screening your own words then maybe you'll get legitimate answers. If that's too much for you, then switch to Firefox as it does the proofreading for you and all you need to do is correct the "red highlighted" areas.

heres my 2cts .. dont go with with any of the following transmissions 727,518,46RE,46RH,47RH or the getrag360,NV 4500,NV 5600, now hold onto your drawers for a min and i'll explain. looking at your first post you say you have a 92 2 wd, perfect i am going to suggest the Eaton transmisson , yes its big , yes there mostly stick shift, and also this trans can take power and the torque that the 5.9 puts out ..plus you have the option of picking a 5,6,7,9,10,13, and or 15 speed transmission if you have any questions on the eatons pm me and ill do best to give you a good answer

And most of us are familiar with the concept of the million mile engine in a 100K truck.
If I rub you the wrong way, perhaps you should just skip it like you said.
Okay, everyone's had their say about grammar, condescending remarks and helpful members, good or bad, now that's the end of it. Right?
RIGHT?
Everyone knows where they stand, so let's get back to the topic at hand! (See what I did there?)
