Question Little red light....go away

After preforming the external VR mod, is there any way to get the check engine light to go away? The code is 41 Generator field not switching properly. Any suggestions?

Two ways.

Easy = stick black tape over the light

Not as easy = find wire to light and clip

Maybe that's all you can do. My FSM says the light will go off once you have corrected the fault code. Sounds like your computer will now forever think that there is a fault...

is there no code reader to D/L and clear codes on these? I can read my codes with that ignition on-off-on-off-on thing in the manual but I don't recall a procedure to clear codes other than fixing whatever caused it. Some can be cleared by lifting a battery post and running lights etc to drain any capacitors, but don't know if that'll work on our 1st gens. What's a VR?

As far as I know, you are stuck with it.

Option 3- remove bulb from dash assembly. I hate to cut wire if I dont have to. What else would the "check engine" light feed to?

<After preforming the external VR mod> ...can you do without the mod? I'd hate for the light not to work in case something else threw a code I needed to know about. Just a thought

There really aren't many useful codes out of our PCMs. They don't really do anything that critical.
