Someone recently told me the lift pump gasket on a cummins is the same gasket a small block chevy ________ uses?

Can someone fill in the blank?

Is it the water neck gasket thats the same as the piston LP ?

Thanks

No, the fuel pump gasket. At least it looks like it would work.

The old chevy's had a lift pump that looked like ours. I can get a measurement tomorrow as where I work is near my uncles shop. He has a old 70's El Camino there.

The SBC fuel pump gasket does look a lot like the Cummins lp gasket...... I'd try it in a pinch if I had to.....

Hey Brandon, you want gaskets for a big block Chevy. I just put a Chevy big block fuel pump block off plate on mine, it matched perfectly!

Don't want to Hijack here, but if this is true... Could one of those high volume sbc fuel pumps be used in place of our lift pumps? I'm sure you'd have to do something to the pump arm to make it work, but from what I remember that would be alot cheaper than a low psi piston pump.

Everything would have to be 100% exact or you'd break the pump arm or possibly mess up your cam.

I wouldn't chance it.

There are only about two different bolt-patterns on mechanical lift-pumps, possibly even only one.

I am fairly certain that the IDI I-H diesels use a "big-block" Chevy gasket and block-off plate; and, I am almost certain that the big-block and small-block use the same block-off plate and gasket.

In most applications, the only limiting factor is relation of cam to engine block wall, requiring various lengths and bends of the operating lever.

One could possibly swap the lever from an O.E.M. Cummins pump into the high volume Chevy pump.

I have a couple of those huge rebuildable Holley high-volume pumps around here somewhere; maybe I will find time to dig them out and compare.
