KSB vs Fuel shut-off

92 Dodge 5.9L TurboDiesel - to make the story short. My new fuel shut-off solenoid (one with 2 wires connected) got installed in the KSB solenoid (one with one wire) position. I've driven ~ 80 miles before I realized this switch had occurred. It seems to run the same as before, but could this switch cause any damage?
thanks

ps I'm changing it our tomorrow

Update

We re-installed the KSB and took out the fuel shut-off valve this morning. It seems the only difference is the plunger mechanism. I can't say as far as the solenoid goes. The KSB plunger appears to be connected (not removable) to the solenoid, but the fuel shut-off valve plunger is removeable and has a small spring internal to the plunger. I have no idea if interchanging the two parts could have caused any problems.

FYI, I was changing the fuel shut off because it would intermittenly shut off when it got hot outside. The fix was to momentarily jumper a wire from the positive battery terminal to the shut off solenoid.

Won't hurt anything, just keeps the KSB from working.

I spent about 2 hrs+ running though the various posts, you tube etc trying to figure out what was going on. since this is the first thing to go south (that i know of) on my first diesel I felt like I was walking in the dark <)) ... the archives etc really helped.

good to hear all is well with the solenoids / fuel pump!!

I appreciate the feedback. Thanks

I am surprised that the threads were compatible.

I could be wrong, but I don't think the thread-size is the same between the two valves on the non-I/C pumps.

I am not to sure about the intercooled, but I am pretty sure these cannot be interchanged.

Jim and Bear Killer - the KSB does not look like the one in the first two photos. it looks just like the fuel shut off valve in the last picture.

i read there was a safety recall on early 1st gen fuel pumps. i suspect mine was changed out entirely.

great pics..Thanks!

If you have a 1991.5 or later you engine will be intercooled and have some differences like head, injectors, vacuum pump, injection pump and also the start of basic engine management and it will also have a different type KSB.

The Non intercooled KSB is a Wax Pellet Motor while the Intercooled version is a magnetic solenoid that operates a completely opposite manner, one operates with the power applied while the other operates when the power in not applied.

Mine must be intercooled - mfg date 9/91 - i suppose the intercooler was a welcome improvement.
