kickdown issues

so i went on a lil road trip today and when i got to a rather steep hill the trans would not kick down automatically, i threw it into low manually and it shifted no problem, definitely made the needle on the temp gauge go up.

i had a feeling something wasnt right from the beginning, just based on the way it accelerates to freeway speed.

when i looked at the KD cable the slotted slide thingy did appear to be about 1/8" from engagement, however, when i manually worked the throttle at the pump, the slide thingy stopped at about half inch from engagement and had to be pushed manually back to its resting position.

is my return spring just too girly? am i looking at this properly? how does one adjust the KD cable if necessary?

You have a spring stretched from the TV cable to the throttle lever?

My 93 does the same thing. I've never been happy with how it shifts....

your spring looks a little wasted...

and lube it up right where it slides on the little pin.

^ What he said. The spring ought to be able to pull the TV cable all the way forward at idle/low throttle.

You can see where around the slot its a little worn (where its brown)... thats because its been rubbing on the pin. It looks dry as a bone so definely get some grease or oil or something and spray the crap out of it.
