KDP Problems!

Well i had a oil leak. Figured it was the Front Main Seal. Went and got all the parts took everything apart to find a nice triangle chuck cracked out of the housing. Of course the KDP is gone and i cant find it. I was wondering since the cracked piece is still there and actually is a pretty good fit could i use JB Weld and weld everything back together? Also where can i look for the dowel pin at? Any certain places it normally ends up? The truck was running fine just had a oil leak and now this...

I don't think I'd trust that expensive engine to JB Weld. You could try running a strong magnet along the bottom of the oil pan. You might find it there.

Well, it is an alighnment pin.. Keeps the front cover lined up with the block... I would find a new dowl pin and put one in and tab that ****.. Also, Jb weld does wonders if prepped properly.. But, unless I had a pic of what was the scenario.. I can't be the judge on how to fix it... Good luck!

Ya... I wouldn't be afraid to use jb weld on that.. wouldn't even think twice... Just make sure you clean it real good with break clean after sanding the area... Make sure you get a nice even coat along the block so it won't leak there.. Also, when your done and it is set.. Take a flat file and make sure the front of the cover is real flat where the piece is going back in.. from the pic I can tell it is sticking out just a touch...

I once popped a chain of my pitbike and it wrapped around and broke my ignition cover and broke off a deal that holds the magneto pickup.. I jb welded it thinking it wouldn't hold... it held for a whole yr's worth of racing.. Then I changed the motor.. But, I have no doubt it would still be working today..

Just curious what do you guys think that those 3-4 dings on the piece that is cracked is from? Im starting to wonder if the guy i bought the truck from knew this was a problem might have banged on it with something to see if it was loose and then decided to sell the truck to me. I was not able to find the dowel pin. Ran a magnet through the oil pan and did not get anything. Ran another magnet through the gears and could not find anything in there.

So any ideas what those dings are from in the pics?

BTW whoever said that the pin fell then caught a right on the camshaft gear and broke the housing is correct. The bottom of the housing shows some scrape marks. From there im not sure how the pin would have fell into the oil pan but im sure glad it did!

No idea where the dings came from.

Put a new dowel pin in, peen the case metal over it to keep it in place, JB Weld the case, and keep on going. Don't even worry about the pin, it's in the pan and can do no more harm in there. It's too big to fit through the oil pump pickup screen.

Have you ever tried Marine-Tex? I used to use JB Weld until I discovered this stuff. It's for metal hull repairs on boats but it works great on any metal (steel, aluminum, etc.). It has a real high tensile strength.

Never used it. I was going through all the different kinds at the part store. I didnt see that stuff. They had a JB Weld Quick. Says it drys in 4 minutes. But i wasnt too sure about that stuff so i just got the normal JB weld origional. I then got online though and i guess JB weld has a marine weld also now. Supposed to resist any oils, chemicals, water, anything. Probably would have tried that if they had it. Oh well its been drying for almost 24 hours now i think i can try and put her back together now and move on to the next problem .

Thank you sir! Was kind of worried about that dowel pin in the oil pan. I didnt want any chance for it to screw something else up. Wonder what next...hmmm..

You can get Marine-Tex at any boating store or my local Ace hardware store carries it. It comes in a small jar and the hardener is in a tube, it kind of looks like fiberglass hardener.
