Kdp ?

Okay. Just did head gasket and then oil cooler. All back together and running ok. Now truck at trans shop for a second rebuild on getrag after less than 40,000 miles(lame). Should I and how hard is it to fix this KDP issue? I figure I should probably take care of it when I get the truck back because the way my luck is going I should be proactive. It's a 92 w250 and very stock. Is it expensive and time consuming?

How many miles on your truck? Got 299k and don't think/know that it has been done on mine. After some amount of miles, if it was going to dislodge, creep out, whatever it does.... it would have happened already is the drift I got.

217,000 mi on it which is probably slightly inaccurate due to some speedo sensor issues in the past that caused the odometer to not work. I am just very hyper sensitive to any more problems occurring as it has ben a costly couple of weeks. I still love that truck though.

I hear you man, such a drag about that transmission. Are the people/shop that worked on it still around? Seems like they ought to stand behind their work, fix it, or give you a killer deal on fixing it. No way that transmission lasted long enough. You said you didn't even work it that hard.

You've got some miles on there. I wouldn't lose any sleep over the KDP. From memory, if it is going to go it's usually by 150k miles. Don't hold me to it though.

Maybe someone else will chime in on how important it is for you and how costly, difficult. There is a sticky on it too if you want to look it over.

Its not expensive, about $80.00 for parts and you will want to do it asap. I have done lots of them, some were still in place others were coming out.ALL had at least 1 bolt loose. go in and get it taken care and clean and loc/tight the bolts! I have seen truck with 250 k miles and the KDP was just ready to fall, it will cost you $$$$ to fix the mess or even find a new engine if it gos,IF your lucky it could fall in the pan and do nothing at all ,But do you want to chance that?

They said they would work with me. Maybe 5-600 as opposed to 1200.00 or so . Still pisses me off as that is my work truck and I am a self employed contractor. My truck is my office and my safety zone as well. Lol

Hmm, going to have to seriously consider doing my KDP, or seeing if my KDP has been done. The possibilities of not doing it.... not good. Got a leaky oil pan too, might as well fix that.

That's good they gave you a "deal" on your transmission work. Helps a little.

When you told the shop the situation after only 40K easy miles, did they have any ideas about why such a premature demise? If they do the work again for you I would want a thorough post mordem exam with a cause identification. I would hate to see this happen all over again because the shop is just not setting up the Getgrag tolerances correctly.

I will have to get on that KDP. As far as the transmission goes, they told they were going to open up the pto covers and take a look inside to see if they can see anything. A mechanic and the owner test drove it already and the manager told both said it shifted real well. I felt like saying no ****. I have driven a stick for 25 years and have never burned up a clutch. I will keep posting when I find out more. This KDP nonsense does not require removal of the head or injector pump does it?

loc/tite the bolts< I have seen more loose bolts then KDP but enough KDPs to go after all of them!

this will ruin your day!

you dont need to pull the head just the crank dampner and timing cover to do the KDP and inner timing cover bolts

Mine fell out and busted the cover at 259,xxx. I got lucky and only took out the cover. Every bolt was loose too.

The one on my dads 95 came out before I had even heard of the KDP cracked the casing so we jb welded it but never got to see how long it lasted as a deer gave that truck to the insurance company.
