Intermitent starting problems

Okay guys......................My new to me 92 Dodge wih 117k has developed an intermitent starting problem. I've searched the threads and my first inlclination was the fuel pump, so I changed it. Thought I had the problem fixed but started acting up again today.

Did the wire thing to the solinoid. Does not appear to be the issue.

IT does start when starting fluid is misted over the airl cleaner; does that mean it's losing prime and its fuel related????

Some other factors; the truck had two after market fuel tanks made out of steel that were corroded pretty bad as was evidenced by the fuel filter change before the drive back from Pheonix. I have only used the main tank and have since removed the other two tanks.

Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Ron

Check your lines for cracks. Sometimes air will leak in but fuel wont leak out. Does it not want to start after sitting for a little while, or over night?

intermitent

Dean.................it is inconsistent. After the lift(fuel) pump change yesterday I took it for "numerous" stop and go rides and it was fine. I went outside this morning and it fired right up. Took it for a drive and went inside for a couple of minutes and it wouldn't fire!!!! Did it twice today.

I'm wondering if it loses prime through the mechanical switch that it is routed through???? I'm going to crawl around underneath tomorrow night and see if I can connect the fuel lines directly or back to factor specs and see if that helps.

Will also keep checking the site for other suggestions.

I'm with Dean on the air leaks. Try lightly pressurizing the fuel tank to turn the air leaks into diesel leaks.
