Installing new CD deck questions

Well my stock radio decided to crap out and it doesnt have a CD player in it so I got a CD deck off of my cousin who didnt want his anymore. Its a darn near brand new pioneer deck and I got it for nothing

After pulling the old deck out I ran into a problem with the wires. There are 2 plugs for the stock deck, both with numerous wire going to them. I need to know which wires are which. I know I need a yellow, red and black. The black is the ground but the stock ground is a big metal strip that is screwed down to the stock deck. Im not really sure which stock wires to use to get my new deck working and have all 4 speakers working properly.

Any help is appreciated! Pics too!

Word of advice... DONT cut the factory harness. Go to a store... and buy a wiring harness for that year of truck and splice it to your deck. That way it's clean and when you want to take it out, if you do, it'll be easy to do so. And with the harness everythings basically colour coded to the deck to it makes it a piece of cake.

Well I have the harness that goes into the deck but as for a harness that plugs into the factory plugs, I guess just go down to the car audio place and buy one there?

wannadiesel,
You went right from the deck harness and wired it into the stock harness? Or did you buy a harness that plugs into the 2 stock plugs and wired that into the deck's harness? Could you possibly tell me who makes it and where you got the harness that plugs into the stock harness?

If I remember there should only be ONE factory plug that you disconnect from the stock radio.

As Dave was saying... just go to your local music store... ask for a wiring harness and specify it's for a 3/4 93 Dodge Diesel. Thats what I did and it worked out.

When you order a wiring harness from wherever... If they give you only one... you only need one. It's been awhile since I looked but I'm sure there's only one. Unless you mean the black thick antenna wire?

If you can't figure it out I'll take a look at mine for you tonight

Edit: Or You could take a picture?

A-Poc, I have a picture, I'm just not sure how to get it on here. Could I email it to you?
I'm probably just going to go down to the car audio place around here and ask them for one. Also what is it called that I'm looking for? stereo harness I'm guessing.

If you want to learn to upload... go here https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/pics then look at the grey bar and click 'Upload Pictures'

And if you want to you can send to msaaiton@yahoo.ca if you like

You ask for a stereo harness or wiring harness. Keep in mind you have to tell them what deck you have and what vehicle. VERY important.

Do what I did go to auto salvage yard look for any Dodge or Jeep vehicle with a factory AM FM cassette CD player it bolts and plugs right in. I got mine out of a 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee its the Infinity model so I took all the speakers and the factory amp underthe rear seat. The wiring was a pain to get out but it sounds great.
