Inch/Lbs torque wrench sources?

Hi!

Has anybody discovered an inexpensive source for an inch/pounds torque wrench that clicks backwards? Not something I'll use a whole bunch so doesn't have to be the best in the world, but decent. Thanks....

Have you tried SEARS? If you don't mind a bending beam style torque wrench they might have one. The micrometer handle ones that small are not cheap.

Y'know, Boatnik, I never even thought of Sears! Sure worth checking out, thanks! I've always liked most of the Craftsman tools.

I have not looked, but I have been told to look at tools for poeple that work on bicycles. I did just buy a small sears clicker on sale, goes to smaller ft lbs but not inch lbs. I need one of them too someday.

Thanks for the tip, SuperDud! I know I need the reverse reading capability for turbo work, and some click type will do that. Most all beam type can read in either direction. I'll check some bike stuff out...thanks1

I checked Sears myself when doing my turbo upgrade. All my store had was click type for about $75. I ended up getting an old craftsman 3/8 beam type off ebay. Think I gave $30 or so for it.

Harbor Freight. That's where I got mine. Less than $30 I think. Has worked well for me for adjusting transmission bands.

I have one from Harbor Freight, but I'm not entirely confident that it works in the reverse direction. I did the Stage IV with it, and just tightened the nut until it "felt good enough", and the wrench hadn't clicked yet. I'll try it on something else and see.

actually picked up one yesterday afternoon from harbor freight so i could do the band adjustment on my trans.........cost me $24.99

went to Sears right before that and they had two inch/lbs, one was $83 and the other was $126. i am not going to use it much so I went a cheaper route which is something I usually dont do. oh well....

I got a Snap-On in/lbs wrench for xmas from my Pa. I just adjusted the bands on Sunday. I compared the Snap-On to the Harbor freight, and, wouldn't you know it, they both clicked out at the very same point! So much for spending the big bucks!

I can't think of a reason the Harbor freight wouldn't work in the opposite direction. The mechanism, I think, is identical no matter which way you turn it.

My Snap-On did come with some directions which I read. One thing it said to do, and I don't really understand why, is to adjust the wrench to HALF the intended setting, click it a few times BOTH directions, then adjust it to the desired setting. Maybe it seats the springs somehow.

Wow, thanks a LOT guys ha ha! I'm a hopeless gearhead and do all kinds of repairs and building so I'll probably hit a mid-range price, 'cause I can use it on several projects but not all that often. I'll do a net search and see what comes up, and check Sears & Harbor Freight websites too. Thanks for all the help!
