Agreed. Good method to do it for any homeowner for cheap and done pretty well.

Electro clean blasting around helps a bit too.

I overhauled my starter for I think about $100 worth of parts. It was totally packed up with carbon crud from the worn away brushes. I cleaned it up and put new brushes and contacts in it in a couple of hours, and I think it will be good for another 275k. Not a big deal. Don't give it away!

I was replacing my starter in the Canadian Tire parking lot (it's like a WalMart and a parts store mix for you US fella's) today.

We are back up in the + temps so I got to lie in slush to get the job done.

While I was tearing off my crankcase breather tube an old lady stopped by and asked what year the turd was. She says her son has one just like mine sitting in her barn and taking up room. GOLDMINE!!!!!

Hope to get it for a steal!!!!!

I got a lot of looks from having to tear off my grill as the hood cable popped out of it's mount. And I had a small generator running to power up the block heater and the magnet heater for the oil pan. Had a big tuna sub and enjoyed the day!!!!

Gotta love the Karma.

My question, did it just click and click, or did you smoke it altogether?

Reason I ask is, if it's just the contacts, you can bybass those externally with a heavy guage wire from the big terminal to the starter's main drive windings.
Just have a helper engage the starter like normal, when it clicks in, jumper the drive and it'll start.

I picked up a rusted heck 1990 dirt cheap once from a guy who'd never heard it run, did this trick and drove it on the carhauler.
Thing ran great.
Previous "owner" wasn't happy, but done deal.

Mark.
