17 inch to 19.5 inch wheels
17 inch to 19.5 inch wheels
have been thinking real hard about moving up to 19.5's and trying to find information, found some but lots of questions remain. Mostly dealing with height, speedo adjustment, will a 19.5 fit in the spare location, just what speck tires will work on the duelly and stuff like that
Re:17 inch to 19.5 inch wheels
I went to the 19.5's on my '02 SRW 2500, and after a 14,000 mile vacation, I really like them, and especially the weight rating of 4500 lb each that the load range G tires give me, but they do raise the effective gear ratio. I have the 3:55 gears and with the 10 ft camper on board, it's a little rough leaving the lights. Comparing indicated speed with a GPS shows that the speedo is 3 mph low at 60 mph - when speedo shows 60, the GPS shows 63 mph, so I haven't bothered with the (expensive) speedo correction. If I see a cop while in a 55 zone, I just drive at 52 - 53 mph indicated, and relax. Take a look at the pics attached..........
Someone was interested in my original aluminum wheels, but I haven't heard back. I do want to sell them - 16" factory option wheels. Lar.

Re:17 inch to 19.5 inch wheels
Having a heck of a time getting this attachment to go thru. I got the wheels and tires from Ricksontruck.com, and they're real good people to deal with. Not too crazy about the Bridgestone tires - they seem to wear OK, but wet weather traction is poor, and they howl like crazy on the highway.

I don't understand this. A plain message answer goes thru fine, but an attachment makes it give a "sorry, that file name is already taken," even when I tried to start a new thread with the attachment. What gives ?? Lar.
Re:17 inch to 19.5 inch wheels
One of the Les Schwab stores in town says they have done a couple 17 to 19.5's so I plan on dropping by in the next couple days and see what they have to offer/say. I have been looking at the rickson stuff as well

I am thinking of doing this to my 04' dually. I'd like other options besides the Ricksons. Isn't there an adapter for 8 to 10 bolt patterns for the big wheels on the bigger rigs too?
Lar...rename your pix and post. Chances are you posted them in a thread elsewhere on DTR and thats why you cannot post here.

Thats them...thanks.
Anyone tried these? I would like to go this route for a better selection of wheels and tires and believe it or not, pricing is better in certain sizes compared to replacing the 17" with other 17" and tires...well, we know theres not much for tires yet in a 17" that can take some weight.

Re:17 inch to 19.5 inch wheels
There is a 19.5" wheel that is made by Accuride, that is mainly made for P-series Chevy stepvan that has the same bolt pattern as our Dodge trucks. But the inside hole is just a hair smaller and can be ground out to where they will fit right on. Someone on this site has a set that worked good, but I don't know who it was. I have looked for this wheel in salvage yards all across the country but have never found any. We deal in 19.5" tires and I really wish I could find some of these used wheels for my 02'.
Re:17 inch to 19.5 inch wheels
Alcoa makes a direct replacement fo the 8 stud hub to 8 stud 16" or 19.5" for the Ford 450/550 flat nut or ball nut. Accuride are stock on trucks including 450/550 Ford. Alcoa is the leader in aluminum wheels for big trucks. PK

You just need to give the file a different name.
ON EDIT: I have GOT to start reading the entire thread before I respond. :
I hope this doesn't offend anyone here, but some of the wheels on the trucks on that website above just looked plain silly. :-

Re:17 inch to 19.5 inch wheels
Cummins Luke you are right but I believe Alcoa makes a wheel in 19.5 for the Dodge pattern but could not access their applications chart, it is directing you to a dealer. The Ford wheel is a pilot hub design which is far superior to the existing ball nut design for weight, again the heavy truck market has gone to this for safety and security reasons due to the infamous lost wheel suits.
