I need a little bit of help from my 1st gen brothers.
Can you settle such matters in small claims court? In some states the limit is fairly high. Contact the jerk that hit you and tell him that his insurance company is ripping you off and that you're going to have to sue him - might put a little more pressure on the insurance co.
I have a couple friends in the auto body business and have learned from them that all insurance companies (even the "best" high dollar ones) will rip you off. Their bottom line is all that matters.

I was told to contact the Texas board of insurance. I might file a report with them and have them look into it for me. It seems that Farmers insurance has a habit of doing this to other people. I talked to a couple of people "in the know" and I was told that money I put into the truck, does come into play.
I still havent heard from the injury side of it. I wonder if they are waiting for me to cash the other check before they proceed. Depending on how that goes, I may just leave it alone. I have fought pretty hard so far, and they have bumped up there original estimate by 30%.
Time will tell
We do need to have a value thread. I am going to keep bringing that up. I may just start a thread with my truck and everyone can just post up. You need to understand that the value you post should be the same as the value you stated when you registered your truck. Or the sold value. If we have a 100 post thread with values that exceed what the insurance companies say, I believe that it could even be used in court. It may be a very valuable resource.

"Texas Board of Insurance" good luck getting any satisfaction thru a gov't agency.
I'm not an attorney, but common sense says that if the ins. co. of the guy who hit you won't pony-up then you go after the guy. If the ins. co. disappeared from the face of the earth the guy who hit you is responsible for paying. Sorry, just tired of decent people getting ripped off.
Send the check back and tell them what you'll settle for.

Tried that once. They put my claim on inactive status.
I don't envy your predicament. The one time I had to deal with this I got a reasonable, no hassle settlement. I guess things have changed since then. Hassling with insurance jerks drove my friend out of the auto body business. Insurance companies screw with everybody involved in the process.
