I need a little bit of help from my 1st gen brothers.
Leper,
I just joined the insurance fighters club Tuesday morning. Had a guy decided to go thru the intersection on a red, unfortunatley I was stopped in front of him.
Just glad it wasn't my '93 CTD Dualie, but it sure made a mess of the back of my Ramcharger, I got to drive it 3 days after I got the engine, trans, and transfercase back in. Insurance isn't going to care if it was all new, it's still just rough looking '87.

Getting holed by insurance companies is a common occurance and will surely get worse. Solid proof(well somewhat)of what some of these trucks are going for is needed. Here is my suggestion.
To the moderators- can we start a sticky, or something similar, where we can post copies(not links) of ebay sales, transaction receipts, copies of auto trader ads, etc. so that we have a reference of values to give to uncooperative insurance companies? If they have a resource, that they can accesss themselves, they may be more apt to see things our way. No one else is going to do it and there is no other resource that specifically targets our trucks. It would be a third party documentation by the people who know the most about these particular truck. It wouldn't hurt.
There would probably have to be pictures and detailed modification list associated with each post. And again, it would have to be copies and not links(links do not last). The longer the thread the more validity it carries. This is a resource that is definitley needed, especially for those who have the mid-eighties crew cabs.
On the flip side we are obligated, as owners, to documant everything (video included) done to our specific trucks for further proof. These trucks are not classics yet but they are not easly replaced either. SHOW PROOF.
Moderators....watta ya think? Workable?

The insurance companies will not give you anything for performance upgrades. They could care less if or what yo have done to it......that was on your dime. I learned that the hard way too.
Why not take the money, buy it back from them, take off all the mods you have done to the truck, and use them for another truck?
Anything (parts) leftover, sell them as well to recoup even more $$.

How bad is the damage, did it smack the cab, with the bed? Was the repair estimate inflated by time on a frame machine? I'm assuming you have some repair estimate too.
I was able to repaint just the pieces replaced or damaged, and the shop I used did a decent job matching the older factory paint.
Any pics of your damage? Look at my pics in my gallery, and you'll see what I had to do to get mine back on the road. And it didn't cost anywhere near what the repair bill would have been. Those estimates take into account new parts too.
You said you were injured in the wreck, and obviously you were rear-ended, you don't have a lawyer yet, to protect your interests?
Don't just settle for the other person's insurance telling you what your vehicle is worth.

Performance modifications aside...a resource is needed that documents what some of these trucks have brought monetary wise. We do nothing, nothing will change.
It blows that I pay for a $15000 policy but will only get what THEY decide it is worth if something happens to it.
We have the means to start something...why not do it?

For the first time after driving almost accident (and violation!) free, with the same insurance company for exactly 40 years!, I too am embroiled in the fight. Not my truck, (my wife's minivan was broadsided), but the adjuster is trying to do a total screw-over on me. The other driver has the same company as I do.
Their job is to save the company as much as possible.
Hire a layer and there is another hand in the pocket.
I've been told in the past couple days:
I mentioned the Kelly Blue Book range of values. She said, "We don't use the Kelly Blue Book, we use NADA."
I went and checked the NADA on line and also called a local dealer, it showed NADA listed our van at three times the insurance company offer. Then the adjuster has the gonads to say, "We have our own version of the NADA Book"!?!?!
There surely does not seem to be any sort of fairness factor. My wife was totaly not at fault, the other guy ran a stop sign in broad daylight on dry roads. Now we're the enemy.
If anyone has an answer, let us all know.
Sorry, had to vent. The good news is that neither my wife or son were hurt.
I'm not wanting to replace the Caravan with a Lexus, but I'm not even going to come anywhere close to break even.

Good luck with your fight, and take care of the injuries, you gain little rushing things.
Bob
Glad no one was hurt in your accident. Just do not accept their price!
Here is the latest.......... They do not accept Ebay selling prices because they are auctions. WTH!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Except for Ebay, I only see a truck like ours for sale every few months. Like BBrown said, they seem to be able to just pull a price out of thin air. I had another "talk" with the insurance company today and I ended up just refusing their value. The way I see it, they can't make me accept their value any more than I can make them accept mine. I showed my purchase price, I showed reciepts for over 5K, they need to give me what I have into the truck and they can keep it. I was almost ready to give in, but now I am getting mad again and I am in for the long haul now. I am gonna fight every day until I see a fair resolution.
