I finally got to work my truck
Well I finally got to REALLY work my truck yesterday. My Grandpa has this old 1930's Oliver 80 series tractor that has been sitting in the same spot for ever. He wanted to move it and I quickly jumped at the chance to see what my ol' girl would do. I didn't really doubt that it couldn't pull it but I was still curious. It was my truck pulling or my Grandpa's 98 Chev 1/2 ton Z71, with my truck being the obvious puller
.
Anyways I got a chain, hooked it up to the tractor and my truck, I put another chain on top of the first chain so should it break, it doesnt act as a deadly whip
. I tried 1st gear in 2wd, and it just sat there and spun. I got out, locked the hubs, threw it in 4LO and 1st and pulled it out like nothing at 1/4 throttle. I only pulled it for about 300 feet but its the most work its seen since I've owned it (the most its hauled was a quad or 2 dirtbikes).
Kind of a pointless post, but IMO my truck proved its worth and showed that old iron is still pretty darn good. I wish I could have gotten pics but the batteries in my camera were dead. Next time I will though!
P.S. Does anybody have a rough estimate as to what a 1930s Oliver 80 weighs? I'm guessing 8000#s+
