Where To Put Water Temp Sending Unit?
Hi All,
I've searched for a couple hours and found a few people who said to use the 1/4" pipe thread plug on the thermostat housing for an extra water temp sending unit. I removed that plug and the gauge probe (autometer "auto-gauge" brand) won't even come close to fitting. It seems that hole is not deep enough for the probe (the probe comes into contact with something inside). This is also while using a 1/4" - 1/8" adapter, so the probe was already sitting up a little higher than normal.
Has anyone successfully installed an extra water temp sending unit in their 1st Gen.?

I just installed one in my truck 2 weeks ago, I pulled out the 1/2" plug that is next to the alternator, to it's right, about 3/4 down, horizional plug
works out gtrat,
there are 2 plugs in the thermostat housing
one top, one side,
go for the side, top my impede on the thermoostat itself!
Peter.

You can use the hole near the thermostat. I had to make an adapter using a small 1 or 2 inch nipple and a threaded bushing.
Here's some pics

If you don't use the adapter you may run into the same problem I did and Pred mentioned. My sender looked like it did fit. After installing it I thought everything was ok only to find out that the sender was pushing on the thermostats spring and not letting it move.
