I took the full power screw out today to look at it and the o-ring as some moisture developed right below it. Nothing seemed outta place so I thought "Hey, add a 1/8" more to the end to get full power travel." So I get the wire feed welder out, and I attempt to get some more metal on the end. Well it was going ok until i hit the side if the screw and welded about 2-3 threads together So I take the stop screw, after breaking the beads off the threads, and attempt to re-thread it. It worked but when I put it in the pump, it was very hard to turn. So I get the bright idea to weld a small nut to the top of the screw, the end with the slot to turn it. Well, the 1st very small tack got it in place, so I precede to add more to make it stay. When I took the helmet off, the WHOLE NUT AND THE END OF THE SCREW WERE I FORMLESS GLOB!!!!

So now I got to fork over what ever money it takes to get this replaced. And I want to pull on Friday!

Yea, now I need to find one near me. I have #'s of 2 diesel injection pump rebuilders. Both about 1 1/2 hours away. I will give them a call tomorrow.

I got a screw for $2 dollars but now I have a problem. When I put it in it screws in nicely until it gets the o-ing right inside it (about 1/2 turn), the it is a bear to screw in. I bought one without the hex end. So I took it out and lubed it with petro-jelly. Still no go. So I take out on it has a silver film on it. Whar is this film and should I be worried??

well I don't know about the silver film but I'd be VERY cautious about forcing anything inside the pump like that, i.e. forcing the screw to thread in, like um, with a welded nut on the end. If you've created metal shavings that will enter the pump, its game over!

Hey, don't feel too bad! The other day, I made a mess of the downpipe in my pickup after shortening it to accomodate a wastegated housing. It looks terrible after I cobbled it together with the crappy wire welder. If that is not bad enough, I broke the actuator while screwing around with it!

I tried to weld up the rub hole on my fuel filler neck the other day and made it 3x as big! I feel your pain!

Dieseljon, take a deep breath and exhale slowly. Have you had the top off the IP before? If you have, then it might be good time to go back in and see what you may have done. I have made thread chasers out of old bolts and used them as taps before but you need to see inside the hole for damage before you try. Take a dremel tool and a thin cutting wheel and cut off the messed up part of the old screw. Then cut one or two slits in the good end of the screw along it's axis like a tap. After the top is off and the oring removed then you might be able to dress the threads. Be real careful, there is only one shot at this.
