hx35 turbo got a few questions

hi
all i did a search and come up with a lot of stuff too much to weed through
i have a chance to get a hx35 turbo off of a 97 dodge (aprox 170,000 miles)(this is a stock turbo)

i have a93 w250 that is stock for the moment
i am in the process of installing a nv4500 5 speed
i do have POD injectors not yet installed

is this what i want to do ? (is it a good up grade)

what do i need to do to make it work?

i think i might be able to get the stock 97 down pipe to go with it

and what is about a fair price for the turbo?

thank you

If you don't turn the pump up much, the HX-35 will keep up with the POD's pretty well for "playtime" use.

To make it work just move the downpipe back about 1.5". The 2nd gen downpipe will not clear the passenger footwell, it comes back too far.

I wouldn't pay more than $300 for a used stock turbo.

Is it what you want to do? Well, that depends on what you use the truck for. For a 5 speed truck that gets driven in traffic a lot, it's hard to beat an HX-35/12 for instant spoolup. You will love it if that's your main use for the truck. If you're towing some, you will still appreciate the spoolup, but you may find the 12 cm restrictive on the top end. This can be alleviated somewhat by aggressive porting. If this is a heavy tow/high speed highway rig, I would encourage you to get an HTT stage III compressor kit instead, and keep the 18.5 cm housing.

yes....but...your future power goals should still dictate the final decision. You can improve on your present turbo to make it better than the HX-35 could ever be. The H1C turbo that's on your truck will accept, for instance, the HTT stage IV compressor wheel and housing (with a new backing plate, or have yours machined). The HX35 cannot be modified to accept the stage IV housing. BUT, if your power goals don't exceed what an HX35 will support, then that's the way to go. You get the 12cm housing and a decent compressor section all ready to bolt up.
