HX35 Questions

Does anybody know if a 98-02 HX35 will work on my truck? I have heard about mounting problems due to the wastegate location. I'm willing to try it if there is a chance it might work out. A friend of mine is letting me borrow his to see if it will work. This turbo has been stored inside since coming off the previous truck. However, when he brought it to me today it was in the bed of his truck, and it somehow got a small amount of water in the compressor housing which ran out on the tailgate when we set it in the bed of my truck. Does this mean that it is now damaged and worthless? I don't think it got in the shaft or bearing parts so is there still a chance that it is just fine?

Thanks,

Dawson

The downpipe won't bolt up. There are a couple of 2nd gen downpipes that will clear the floor, or you can get an old style flange to replace the elbow on the back of the turbo so you can use the stock downpipe.

How long was water in the compressor? All the parts are aluminum, so unless it got dunked or it sat a long time things should be fine.

I have another housing with the old style flange that I could use to replace the elbow. I'm not sure exactly how long the water was in there, but I don't think it could have been more than about two hours. Does that mean it's probably ok? Other than changing the exhaust flange should that turbo bolt on without any problems?

Thanks,

Dawson

Yeah, it's fine. You will have to shove the exhaust back about an inch. Swap housings and have fun.

Okay, I think I might try the old style exhaust flange and see if it will work. I might try to change it tomorrow if your in town and feel like wrenching.

Well shucks, I guess I'll have to do it without a trained professional.

Do I need to turn up my pump to a certain level in order for the HX35 to operate effeciently? I have it turned up about 1/4 or 1/2 a turn at the moment, but does it need to be turned up more?

Thanks,

Dawson

You need pyro before you touch the pump anymore anyways.
