Hubs locking themselves?
Hubs locking themselves?
I went to lock my hubs last week in preparation for 4wd, and noticed one was already locked. Weird. Now I've been checking and every couple of days - 100-150 miles - my left hub is either locked or not in the snapped free position. Any ideas on this?
Thanks guys, was hoping it's a common easy thing, wonder if maybe the springs are just worn in the mechanism. Maybe I'll experiment with some stiffer springs when I'm home this weekend.
I had the hubs apart a few weeks to grease the wheel bearings and install the missing pins in my locknut.
I was pretty careful to not overlube the splines of the locking mechanism, but they do turn pretty easy.

IMHO being the location is Orange County in SoCal the most likely explanation is kids seeing your locking hubs and knowing that having one of them locked can cause damage to your running gear do then lock one maliciously.
