4WD Locking Hubs
4WD Locking Hubs
My 92 is having problems with the Manual Front Locking 4WD Hubs. They seem to like to click and grind a little now. I have never replaced them in the 5 years owning the truck, so I can only assume that they are the originals. So, what brand is a good strong hub to purchase. I haven't really started searching on the net yet for places because I figured I would ask the people that use them on our trucks first.

Thanks. Scott.
Re:4WD Locking Hubs
Warn makes replacement hubs.
Not sure on dependability or price.
Here's a link though.

Looking through the application guide, they appear to have choices for your truck (both standard and premium)

Re:4WD Locking Hubs
Well, don't you know it. I was hoping to make it past this weekend with no snow in Vermont. Of course, we get probably the LAST snow storm of the season and my hubs do not even engage anymore. Here I sit in my drive way with only 2" of snow, Plow loaded and ready to go (need to plow mother-in-law's), 305 summer tires on and the stupid truck won't even get out of it's way since my hubs just grind away when I pull it into 4wd. Take the plow off and truck just slides all over the driveway. Gee, should I be thanking Nascar Mark for all of this power now from his old motor? I still say YES OH YES. ;D ;D Hell, I will burn those tires off just to get out of my driveway in 2wd...LOL

Well, off to the auto store to see what they have in stock for hubs and I only hope they have Warn at least. I have had them in the past on a different truck and were happy with them. I just didn't know if other people were using different ones. I did a search and there are a few out there now.

Thanks to all. Have a wonderful day.

Well, isn't today just a lovely day.... NOT. Went to the store, bought those nice Premium Warn hubs. They look pretty. Came home, went to put them on and they do not fit. Looked like for a 1/2 ton or at least not the 4500 lbs frt axle. Brought them back and checked about a 1 ton frt axle hub. They do not carry them for Warn. So, got my money back and away I went. Go to the other parts store. It shows that he has a set but couldn't put his hands right on it, though one is in the Warehouse. So, I left him alone for a couple of hours so he could retrieve those. Come back around noon and sure enough, he has a set of SuperWinch heavy duty Hubs for a 1 ton (4500 lbs) frt axle. I ask about Warn and he says he doesn't carry anything in Warn for that size. I walk outside and these want to slip right on. (Warn does look beefier then SuperWinch imo). So, off I went to home and replaceed these onto my front end. Go to try 4wd and they worked for about 3 minutes. Then I hear a loud grinding noise. So, I crawl underneath and my Front Driveshaft is spinning on it's self. So I pull that and make a few phone calls. Nobody around here open that fixes driveshafts. I think it was a bit of both parts needing to be replaced but one thing for sure. That front shaft is smooth as a babies butt on the inside. Luckily, it is only smooth on the small front piece that goes to the axle and I don't think I will need the coupler section replaced. So with this great snow and freezing rain. Once my chores are done, off to be home for the weekend.
