Question How do I convert to a Lockup hub setup

Reason I ask is because today I got stock in the mud and the dang left front wheel that was not in the mud did not spin. I am new to the 4x4 world and now I don't believe I have a tuf 4x4 because lets face it we don't have a real 4x4. Or am I way off? I know that the Fords have the lock up setup. How do I go by getting this done? Thanks.

Change the differential out to a LSD or a Locker

do you mean lockout hubs? EMS Offroad or Dynatrac. I have the EMS and it was the best upgrade so far.

Limited slips or lockers to make both fronts pull.

Manual locking hubs that you lock with your fingers will not make both fronts pull but are really nice.

The front differential is an open design. Locking hubs won't change that. It needs to be open so you can turn on dry pavement without scrubbing the tires.

If you want the best perfromance, you want a true locking diff, like a Detroit Locker (NOT LSD like TruTrak, Dodge, or Torsion). You can't use that on dry pavement, and operates poorly on dry dirt roads. But, then you have to add manual locking hubs to drive it on the street.

A good middle ground would be to add a gear type LSD like Dodge, TrueTrak, or torsion. There are some driveability issues with that. But people who have done it say it's not that big of a deal.

I occasionally hear rumors of an air locker, but havn't seen that it's on the market yet.

Thanks for the info guys, it was a nightmare last night getting the dang truck out of the lake bed. It looked dry but once it broke through the lake bed it was over. I will post some picks later on tom...
