Lockup vs non-lockup hp loss...

Anyone ever dynoed one back to back with no other changes? Curious at how much of a difference a lockup trans will make.

i could maybe find out real soon... I'm thinkin I'll put my HE351 back on for the winter anyway and I'm thinkin I'll throw this stock 47rh in for now. And if everything is going good I'll probably dyno again. I probably wont dyno til about march though. Seems like a lot of people are goin that route now, but it sounds like the way to go. Mostly I wanna get this tranny in just for the mileage.

I had Suncoast tighten their default non lock-up converter a little with my most recent trans work. It was good for almost .2 seconds (mostly in the first 1/8th).

Just to help illustrate the loss.

If I could gain 50hp in the trans and 50hp in timing, I'd be right at 450hp before the drugs....which would be fine with me...

I think you might be able to get gains close to that but remember Archer39 had a stock converter you have a goerend already so the gains may not be as much.

it is when you have it controlled via a switch that the driver controls.

yea my 518 was not the greatest and the 47rh had a triple disk goerend converter.

sorta, i finally have steady income with the new job so it won't be to long. I am more than likely am going to get a Goerend trans. I called them the other day to get a price and since i got the converter with the lifetime warranty and valve body they take that price off the trans price. they will send me a whole trans with new converter and valve body and i just send them my stuff. I am really wanting something i know is built right with a warranty.

It's funny you should be writing this Jason, I was just wondering an hour or so ago about whether you garnered any info from Stomp on his truck and how he makes all his power.

I know how he does it...twins, an intercooler, timing, and a 5spd

I've had my fun using all the wrong parts, but it was the big flame out the wastegate exhaust that convinced me I was just sending all that fuel from the 14mm out as heat energy, and I needed to stop being a sissy and crank up the timing. I talked to Kenny Laughlin, owner of Dr.Performance and he said they've ran four stages of spray on 28 deg timing on their drag truck. Although they have more rpm (less cyl pressure) I feel I should be safe at 22-ish and 2 stages. As for the lockup trans, I've always wondered how much of a difference it would make and I finally just decided to try it.

STOMP and I did have a little fun back-and-forth at Ponci's though....even if he does have more power than me, I can run faster than his 15 second quarters
