How to manually ground overdive solenoid??

My buddy and i are still trying to chase down the overdrive issue in his 93. We have checked the TPS, The VSS and all work properly, we are leaning to the overdrive solenoid. What do we need to do to ground out the solenoid?? Any help or pics would be great, thanks

The OD plug is on the driver's side of the trans, you want the plug with only 2 wires.

Don't mean to bring up this older thread, but I thought it was easier and better to do then start a new one. As far as grounding the overdrive solenoid do you unplug the harness plug from the physical solenoid itself and then ground it? I want to try this as I think it's possible my overdrive solenoid is bad. Or as best as I can put it what is a kinda detailed procedure on doing this, as I need some assistance? I know where it's located and won't have a problem finding it, but do I need to do it while the truck is driving in 3rd gear to see if it then shifts into overdrive? I would guess the best way to do that would be to have it jacked up safely under jack stands while running and then test manually grounding the overdrive solenoid right? Thanks and I gladly appreciate any advice or experience.

The connector has to be plugged in or the solenoid won't get power.

You can do it driving, install a switch in the ground wire and flip the switch while doing about 40 mph in 3rd. It should go into OD if the solenoid and OD unit are OK.

Hey Dave, thanks for your reply. Sounds pretty straight forward, but I'm thinking how will I tie into the ground wire (one of the two) going into the weatherpack connector thus then into the solenoid itself? Running a wire down from the switch in the cab won't be a problem, but tieing into the ground wire is where I'm puzzled (of course without cutting the insulation to get access to the copper for a connection). What's your advise? Appreciate it.

Pull the rubber out of the weatherpack and you should be able to jam the wire down in there for a temporary test rig.
