Question How Far on a Tank of Fuel?

How far do you 5-spd owners generally go on a full tank of fuel? Here is why I ask: I pulled up to the pump the other day day with the needle just bouncing off E, so I figured I was pretty much out of fuel & would be pumping about 30 gallons. After 15, it was plumb full; no more could be shoehorned in. Since this fuel gage seems to be pretty close to useless, I figure I'll just fill up by the odometer like I do with my motorcycle, but I want to get a sampling of how far a similar truck will go.

BTW, I got 17 mpg in mixed city/hwy driving on that trip. I'm really starting to be glad I bought this truck.

Thanks for any help,
Chris

My last fill-up was at 485 miles. The Low fuel had just come on. It took 25 gallons.

I don't like to see the fuel gauge below half so I refill about every 250 miles.

OK, that's more like it. My odo said 267, & like I said that gage indicated I would be sucking fumes soon. Thanks!

If I let it go that long, 600 miles and I'm looking for fuel. On my 93, when the low fuel light comes on, they say you have 20% remaining, which would work out to 6 gallons (about 120 miles). I've ran it all the way to nearly empty, according to the guage, but I've never put in more than 27.7 gallons. Last time I checked my mileage I was getting 22.5 mpg. Adjusted valves, clean air filter etc and I'll get my 23.7 like I have since buying it new. I think there's a bit of a cushion there unless you let the needle get on the low side of the E mark....then you better have your tennis shoes on. Chuck

During the summer when truck was bone stock I got just over 700 miles...706 I think. Ended up putting 28.x gallons in, averaged around 24.5 that tank. Once took a trip (bone stock) and it was around 250ish miles and mostly 55-60mph cruising, got 25.5mpg...I was impressed. And again, this was in the summer. For some reason it doesn't get as good a mileage now

Tank Miles

Our miles are as follows on 97 SLT, stock as far as we know:
424,301,257,200,167,177,369 -- have yet to pump over 20 gallons. Overall average is 17.265. Sure will be glad to get to summer and find some good #2 fuel, this winter blend sucks.

I usually clock around 450 in town, but on my trip to kentucky in the fall, I easily made it over 600 before refueling and got 21ish mpg the whole way! I love diesels!!

I usually run out of bladder capacity long before I run out of fuel. As long as I'm stopped, I fill up. If not, 550 is easy if I'm not towing.
