Chris -

First, I count on 600 to a tank. I love 22mpg on a 1ton dually. (Initial figures look like 23.5 having just swapped to a 16cm housing from my 21).

Does your low-fuel light work? My fuel gage is erratic ... if I fill up and run the whole tank without shutting the truck off, it works fine. As soon as I stop / start again, all hope is lost. But regardless of the gauge reading, the low fuel light kicks on like clockwork at 6 gallons left every time. I just ignore the gauge, and count on 120miles (seems to be a pretty common figure) before I need fuel.

I just dread the day that little light burns out on me ... I'll run 'er bone dry before I notice.

Dan

Dan, I have no idea if that light works because I have not yet dared to run it below what is apparently half a tank due to that goofy fuel gage. Now that I have a pretty good idea how far to empty, I'll just keep driving until about 500 miles or the light comes on-- whichever's first. It would sure be nice if the Low Fuel light came on at start-up so a new owner could verify its functionality.

Thanks for the help, everyone!

mpg

went from Halfway, Or. to Jacksonhole, Wy. 550 miles and filed up in jacksonhole with 26 gallons. 21 mpg. not bad for a truck with 35" tires and no Overdrive . of course going across Idaho i was passed by almost every one. lol
65-mph isnt fast enough any more.

Bob.

Man, I wish I was getting the kind of fuel economy you guys were getting....on average I'm only getting about 16.7 miles per gallon . Obviously its partly from the bombs, but do you think the elevation and thin air up here in the rockies plays that big of a deal!??

The elevation affecting your fuel is the elevated amount of fuel flowing thru your POD'S. I was told drop 3+ miles per gallon for them alone.

I average about 17mpg half highway( stop and go traffic) and half city. Must be the elevation

Yeah.... That's it. It's the elevation!

Maybe the elevation of my foot on the go pedal.

I seem to average out to about 425 miles before the low fuel light starts flashing, and about another 100 before it stays on steadily...then the tank takes about 24 gallons to fill it. Sooo.. i am averaging what? about 21 mpg?

IIRC about 300 or so in the city. My best hiway was 600 just as the fuel light came on. i'm trying to get into the habit of filling up at about 1/2 tank.

I was only getting like 10-12 befor mods, After Doing everything to the pump i went up to 17 mpg turning 2500 rpm (no over drive). I though i might get better after i fixed the od, but i didn't. I suspect i have crappy injectors.

I ran mine from completly full to completly empty and went 712 miles on the full 31 gallons. I did have to refill on the side of the highway, prime the pump, and crack the injectors. Good thing I kept tools and a 5 gallon can of #2 in there. Maine doesnt seem to like diesels too much, so gas stations that sell it can be far between.

I sure wish they sold the diesel jeep here, I'd buy one for sure.

I average about 575 per tank (combined city and some highway), but have gone well into the 600 range. Wish I had a Ramcharger tank though...

Hope you 12V guys don't mind a 3rd. Gen. guy chirping in here.....I think if I ever get 700 miles per tank, I will just stand there and pee all over myself! Sig shows what I have, and I am very pleased with it, having pulled 625 on 33 gal, but of course I am wanting more. Hoping someone comes out with some electronics that eliminate the 3rd. injection pulse.
A couple of questions....what size tank on the earlier models, and what gears? I know the auto in mine, 4X4, along with not being able to get 3.55s ain't helping, but it is what it is. One advantage we have is if I do run it dry, this system is SUPPOSED to self prime when you pour in 5 gal. Don't want to test it though.

A Cummins Service Tech told me that the 3rd gen lift pumps tend to burn up if you run them dry. I wouldn't recommend it!

I have a ~31 Gal tank, 354 gears, 4x4 and a 5 speed.
