high idle

Is there anyway to make our truck high idle for when they are left sitting and running in the winter?
I saw the thread about the pull cable... is that really the best way to go? I'd be worried about the risk of it causing the throttle to possibly stick or something.
What is the factory High Idle that some trucks apparently have?

You can rig up an electric throttle kicker from an older gasser carb. If you have $180 or so Vortec makes a real nice auto throttle control that is vac operated and the controller is hooked to the brake lights and neutral safety switch to automatically idle down or back up.

A broom stick cut to the right size also works and is free. I have heard about the throttle cable (old choke cable?) that you could attach to the throttle and pull it if need be also.
