help 92 1 ton dually
can anyone tell me if a 92 dodge ram 1 ton dually w\ 5.9 turbo cummins
has ele. fuel pump in the tank? the book shows a sending unit and filter but it dont show a pump. i am having some fuel issues and need to know or guess i will just pull tank and see. thanks dave (my fuel issues are hard starting, low power, i just changed the lift pump) it now starts better but still has low power. i took the fuel line off the pump from the tank and turned the key on
and no fuel pumped out so either the pump is bad if it has one or more than the key on is needed to make the pump run

No pump in the tank, the lift pump is the pump that feeds the injection pump and it is on the side of the block. No electric lift pumps where used will the 98.5's when the 24 valve engines came out and the in tank pumps didn't come about till after 2003.
You did leave the lever up right? It happened to another member here and it drove him nuts. Did you change the fuel filter too?

Lightly pressurize the fuel tank and look for fuel leaks on the fuel lines and up on top of the tank. If it's sucking air power will be down.
Also the fuel heater (above the filter) gasket is often the source of a leak.

Another possibility, I have a '92 also, I had a power problem which was first thought to be the I.P. it turned out to be the pick-up in the fuel tank. A part had broken off and caused my truck to have zero power, she would start and idle but as soon as I touched the throttle she would die. It is possible that the filter on the pick-up is clogged, bad part, you have to drop the tank to repair, good part, much less expensive than a new pump.
