I have done it to mine 3 times (Making sure all was good, and after 2 hot/cool down cycles) on stock bolts without any trouble.

That last head bolt at the very end of the block by the firewall is a sheer joy to get at, I'll say that much. When I replaced the HG on mine, spring before last I wasn't sure if I got it tightened all the way. Should probably check it, but there is no way to get a torque wrench on there to test torque with any accuracy, not with the extensions on it you need to even get in there to begin with. Yeah, I removed the wiper motor, too.

Just tighten it as well as you can and hope for the best, I suppose, it the logic behind making it so hard to reach.

Well its done all torqued to 125ftlbs no issues at all. Some seemed loose as it took little effort to move them at first. So I feel better now that at least I know that I did all I could to preserve the hg. Thanks for all the tips and advise everyone it was very easy nothing to it at all. There was one bolt that when I went to torque it the ratchet part of the wrench skipped and I almost crapped myself cause I thought I broke the bolt lol.

On high mileage trucks the bolts will be pretty loose....part of the reason the h/g blows I think. On mine, most weren't even at factory specs. You torque them with oil, or without?

My truck is getting to be high mileage i guess she has almost 180,000 now. No oil I didn't back them off I just torqued them.

I am thinking of re-tourquing the head bolts on the 12V I am putting in my '78 Ramcharger while it is out. I plan to push 35 PSI and make some decent power with it.

Anyone else with some recent experience with this job?

My motor has 200,000 on it and shows no signs of HG issues.

No comments on re-tourquing the head bolts?
Nobody here has done that in the past 8 years?

Won’t hurt anything if you only do one bolt at a time.

Thanks Mark.
Would you recommend the pull one bolt at a time, clean it up, then re install and re torque it?
Or just the basic throw the torque wrench on each bolt and see if it clicks or tightens up a bit?

Well unless you have a way to chase the threads in the block one at a time & clean them out with the head on, I would just break loose one at a time & torque back up.
