Head gasket?

Started my truck this morning to warm up and when I went back out to leave and there was antifreeze pouring out the overflow. I put a new rad cap on hoping that was the problem but it is still doing it. I'm thinking that my head gasket is gone. The truck is a 90 with the original motor so it could also be that the head is cracked. Any thoughts? going to pull it it the shop this morning as soon as I get all the snow out from in front of the doors and start to tear down I guess. Any helpful tips on pulling the head?

you could do a leak down test, this would rule out if it's the head gasket. Could be a seized up t-stat as well or the water pump is gone.

If it is the head gasket, not a bad job. You might need a cherry picker, heavy lug that head is!

Basically you put each cylinder at top dead center and compressed air enters the cylinder. If there is a head gasket leak you'll see bubbles coming out of the radiator cap or air coming around the head.

mine was always low too before this happened. I could never see any in the snow and it wasn't going into the oil.

Took the head off my truck tonight. The only thing obvious was the bolt between 3 and 4 was carboned right tight in its hole. Is the normal? Didn't see anything really wrong with the gasket. Broke 3 manifold bolts off in the process. At least the head is out and easy to work on.

cleaned up the block a bit to take a picture and it looks to me like number 5 was leaking. It is really black on the drivers side of the block and it was the bolt between 4 and 5 the was stuck in its hole and the bolt between 5 and 6 was a little hard to pull out also. What is the quickest way to get a photo up on here?

Just went out and wiped it out and yes it is scored a little. I guess this just turned into more than just a head gasket.

So I'm thinking I need to pull it out to have that repaired.
