HE351cw on Non I/C truck

Hey guys. A buddy of ours that lives up in NY and frequently comes down to visit, has a bunch of 1st gens. All of which i have tuned.

But his nice one which is a 90 D250 with a Locker in the rear and a tight 727 auto, he wants to make his toy.

So here's a list of what we've already bought and I'm putting on for him this summer.

Glowshift Gauges
4" Turbo Back Exhaust
AFE Air Filter & I made him an old smokey mount
DennyT fuel pin
HE315cw turbo from an 05 ....no elbow came with it

right now the truck has a rotated fuel pin and a 1/8 timing bump.

So i don't think low 14's or possibly even 13's is out of the question here as it's a light truck and has a Locker in the back so traction shouldn't be too big of an issue.

I've never done a turbo swap before....So If anyone has pictures of their crossover setups with HE351's on NON i/c trucks that'd be great.

Another big thing is Exhaust, the downpipe we got with the DE kit is 4" but has a 3" Flange....Do i need a special size flange for the HE351 then weld it to the 4" downpipe?

If anyone has links to certain parts I will need like the flange for the intake if i decide to make a custom crossover? and the exhaust flange?

Thanks. I know ther'es a bunch of you that have done this swap before.

Do some searchin. Turbos are pretty easy to swap. I've seen a pic of one on a non ic with a 90* rubber elbow and custom crossover tube from what it looked like. If you can get a 3rd gen downpipe for cheap then get it and cut the flange off it and weld it on the new downpipe. I didn't use the cast elbow and just v band clamped it and it held and sealed fine.

Hey,

I just installed the 4" DE kit and 351CW on my 91. I bought a flange from Jacob at Diesel Auto Power and had it welded on the DP. They cut off the 3" flange and returned it to me.

I feel like i'm on my chevy truck forum again, jeez.

I get an error every time i try to search that's why i've never been able to on my computer.

But i forgot JustRamit did this swap on his truck so I will probably get him to help. The only turbo swap i've ever done was an HX35 and that was almost bolt on.

Hi brandon, long time no talk. Yeah i have pictures and all the adapters with receipts and what not. I might be able to have another flange made, for you, i just need measurements. I just found out about a lathe n sweet cnc machine... and all i have to do is ask, politely.

The flange for the intake manifold? I would like to do a 2.5" Pipe going from the intake manifold to the compressor since the compressor outlet is 2.5" I believe.

No i was refferring to the flange coming off the turbo, without the elbow(turn down) you need a flange to weld onto a 4" tight radius 90* elbow. 2wd will be easy for welding the exhaust up, its basically a straight shot. I have 1 flange made for an intake horn, its 3/8 steel. I wanted to make a few of them because its a basic shape and i have a few ideas i want to play around with. Including that oval tubing... Another thing to look into getting is a 90* rubber elbow to exit the housing. I wanted to cut the turn out off in such a way where it could be aimed the correct way. and welded back together, but idk if this could work.

I'm good on the exhaust. His truck has a full 4" Diamond Eye exhaust. I just need to figure a way to attach the turbo to the downpipe so I think i'm gonna buy that flange from diesel Auto or whatever and weld it onto the end of the DP and get the matching band clamp for it as well.
