HE351CW install with 4" downpipe NON I/C (!)

I have altered Pullitilbroke's custom crossover to accept an HE351 with the annoying cast forward turbo outlet... I have driven it once to test and when I was making 24 PSI max boost with the 727, now I'm making 35++ but got scared and backed out. NO fueling changes were made!! I did install a getrag as well though...

Just food for thought for you non i/c guys. So far I love the HE351CW. However, driving the truck with no trans tunnel makes it too loud to hear the turbo that clearly, but I can actually still hear it when it lights. I was VERY surprised that this turbo. It acted just like my H1C with 54 cold side and 14CM hot side housing until the low 20s in boost and then it just shoots up like a rocket to 35+!! I have tightened up the wastegate actuator so it is definitely not opening...

I removed the heat exchanger and the 4" downpipe from Rip Rook fit like a glove, what a great piece.

yep, getrag 2wd 5speed to the divorced np205. 1410 yokeshaft 9 3/4" was made as the Getrag is 2.75" longer than the 727. Retained the stock crossmember. Still need to work out the brownie shifter now. Doesn't clear under the trans tunnel with teh bigger G360.

That is awesome. I have been thinking about making my dually 4x4 but me and a couple buddies figured it wouldn't be worth it. Seemed like to much work to make the 2wd Getrag work in a 4x4. I think I may change my mind again, thanks for the inspiration. Great work man. I'll probably have a butt load of questions for you.

So your shaft between the trans and t-case is 9 3/4"?

Gotta few questions for you:

How did you hook up the HE351cw to Rip's DP? I stupidly got a 3" flange at first so I had to cut it off. It looks like you have an adapter in between?

How long is you shaft between your tranny and divorced case? I have a 2wd NV4500 and divorced NP205 but no shaft, so I'll have to make one.

Did you're 4 door have a center bearing originally? Did you eliminate it or is it still there and you just shortened that smaller shaft?

The 1972-1973 Dodge W100-W300 all came with Divorced NP205 Transfer cases with three (3) 32 spine shafts - Input/Front output/Rear output. On my rig the np205 is in the stock location. The original configuration was a 360 V8 mated to a 2wd 727 (same length as our diesel 727).

The truck had a nicely installed 3speed Divorced aux trans (brownie after the manufacturer Brown-Lipe) Although I believe my unit is a spicer. It has 1410 yokes in and out with OD/Direct/UD.

I now have what will be 3 sticks on the floor (possibly 4 if I get around to twin sticking the NP205...)

The stock HE351CW was equipped with a large angled cast elbow which I removed due to clearance issues. However, the outlet on the HE351 is very large ~4 3/8" - a guy on ebay sells these adapter plates that you can clamp to the He351 outlet that allow you to clamp up an HX40 Style Down Pipe

Here is a pic of the Brownie and Divorced Case from the rear. Yes this means I have 2 yoke shafts and 2 driveshafts in this rig... The pics are old / pre Getrag but yes it is still dirty/caked with ~40 years of grime. The rig was undercoated when new so it looks worse than it actually is though. No rust to speak of...

P1000309.jpg?t=1266971027

USMMA - the rig WAS for sale for a week but I realized it would be foolish to sell it so soon + there were still some important bugs to work out (pointed out to me by potential buyers - why are they so picky lol?) before it would really be a turnkey driver for someone = worth much.

DZL DAMON - yes the shaft between the transmission and transfer case is 9-3/4" however orginally it was more like 12.5" because the stock/factory 727 auto was shorter. The yokes have been upgraded to 1410 on the xfer case input. It now has a Ubolt style 1350 on the output. I would upgrade it to a 1410 but the short yokeshafts are spendy. The Driveline shop here said that the shaft would be a normal yoke/tube/slip type shaft if it were a couple inches longer. Since I didn't want to mess with moving the xfer case back a couple inches and messing up the space between the transfer and brownie I had to spring for the special yokeshaft but the first yoke end he found as a candidate listed for $$635.00 (!)

Dang, how much was that adapter? I should have got one of those and welded on the HX40's angled flange that was only $10

48.00 buy it now. When I saw it I *HAD* to have it! I hadn't figured out how to run the HE351 till then - I already had the non i/c problem solved in my head using the 135 degree silicone elbow though... Just search "he351" in ebay...

$48 isn't bad. I paid $55 IIRC from source for my flange. It looks the same though.

If you would have Rip you were using a HE351 he could have welded the proper (HE351) flange on the down pipe.

Interesting. I should've called him, but just ordered from the website. He probably would've just welded the adapter on the pipe...
