Hard Shutdown
Hello to everyone out in cyber world,
My question is: My truck shuts down really hard it just gives a big shake. It stops right away but instead of just stopping quietly it decides to give a shake. The truck start and runs great and the shutdown does not bother me but I thought I would check it out with ya'll. Any thoughts?

They shake like a wet dog. Don't shut 'er down with the door open, you'll wear out the hinges quick. If you think it's really bad, check out the motor mounts, loose mounts will make it worse. It feels like that because the engine stops really fast (do a search on belt chirp) when you cut off the fuel.

Unless you have bad mounts or something which would make it more pronounced, that shake is caused but the rapid decelleration of the rotating assembly because you have shut off the very fluid supply that keeps the same parts happily rotating. That 17.5 to 1 compression will stop things real quick when those six little fires go out.

How is the best way to check your motor mounts? Like the old way, Step on the Brake and give it the throttle and watch as it torques to the right? Or Left in reverse? I'm afraid my tires will start breaking loose

Nah, just crawl under and make sure all the bolts are tight and nothing looks broke. Mine was loose when I got the truck, took a bit of slack out of the driveline when I tightened it up, too.

You could also do the little brake torque that Nuttymopar described, but sorta blip the throttle more than just stepping on it. It will be obvious if the mounts are bad, it will jump up and back down...good luck!
