Bought a nice diamond-plate BHAF mount from Tuckerdee and went to install it today, thinking "this should take about 20 minutes". So anyway, 30 minutes later I figured out that I had to remove a lot of stuff to mount it. Then it occurs to me, "hey, I'm gonna have to take all that stuff off whenever I change the darn filter". So naturally, the thought after that is "maybe I don't need this thing after all...".

So here's my question. Right now it is wrapped in an Outerwears cover and held in place with a bungee. My idea is to secure it with a strap and basically let it hang out there in the open. I have driven 2 other cars with aftermarket intakes and they both had exposed air filters (with no Outerwears) and they were fine. Why not this one? Seriously, it looks like having it exposed would offer even more airflow and I can't imagine it would get too wet or too much more dirty. Am I wrong? Does anybody else run their BHAF out in the open?

Most aftermarket filters are oiled cotton, the BHAF is paper. The mount (if it's basically the same as an Old Smoky mount) is also a drip shield. Water off the hood will run onto that little lip on the fender and drip right down on the filter. Outerwear or not, I would install that mount.

 

Its realy not that big a hassle to change the filter, or to install the Ole Smokey mount.
Step 1) remove radioator overflow bottle- (3) 3/8" bolts- move it aside..
Step 2) remove A/C accumulator-(1) 7/16 bolt---move it asdei.
Step 3) install filter onto mount and install mount.
Step4) re-intall accumulator and overflow bottle...

I am mechanicaly challenged and it took me about 20 minutes from start to finish......

 

Hey I was wonderin if any one knew where I could get a BHAF mount, I have the filter I just need the mount.

 

I want one of those BHAF mounts too....

 

Well, I may find a different way to mount my BHAF. Not sure yet. If I don't use it I will post it for sale - one of you guys can ****** it up.
