Miles of Hassle...
Miles of Hassle...
Bought my 2006 Ram Diesel in November. Got the "Miles of Freedom" incentive...free oil changes, tire rotation, etc. every 6K miles for 24K miles.
Brought the truck in to my local dealer for the first "free" service and they won't honor this because I did not buy my truck there. Huh? This is making me nervous because this deal also includes an extended mechanical warranty to 5 yrs/50K miles and I'm wondering if my local dealer won't honor that either. The "service contract" is between Chrysler and me, not my dealer and me.
Anyone else having this problem?? Or is my local dealer just being a ____?

I had the same on oil and rotate for the 1st year, it was only applicable with that dealer(thier promotion). not sure if that is the case with yours. the warranty, won't be a problem at another dealer cause I used another dealer to do a couple of things on my rig.
I only used my oil promotion once cause I bought it at Dave Smith in Kellogg ID and I lived 45 minutes away. the one time I did they questioned it and I faxed my agreement, no problems after that.

Understand. But this is a Daimler Chrylser "Service Contract" to do a complete service every 6K miles, not just a dealer incentive. The local dealer simply states that he can't make any money on this, so won't honor it. Chrysler says that they can't force the dealer to honor it, since they are independently owned.
Here's the deal. That dealership exploited this incentive, among others, to sell more vehicles when things were slow in the biz 6 months ago. Some vehicles they sold went elsewhere and are being serviced elsewhere. That's the way it works, or is supposed to.
So, I just think this is a bunch of typical dealer BS.
I don't know why I continue to buy American. What's that definition of insanity? Keep repeating the same behavior but expecting a different result.
I love my truck, but Toyota is looking better and better.

That sounds like a whack deal. I think I would have to get activist on them, telling everyone I know twice a day what a dump and crooked place that dealership is. It's not your fault how much money they can or can't make on a particular good or service. You're the customer, and you are ALWAYS RIGHT!
Call up the dealer you bought the truck from, tell them you expect a full refund of a years worth of the services that aren't available that you deserve. Tell them you expect to see it in 10 business days or they will be hearing from your attorney.
Might try calling the Chrysler help line too.

Yeah...it's depressing to think that all manufacturers have good and bad dealers and dealer service departments, but I'm thinking you're right.
But it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that treating your customers well and with respect so that they leave the dealership in a positive frame of mind, rather than have it always be a negative experience, is good for business.
For me, going to the dealer service department is almost as bad as going to the dentist.
