Getting Ready to Rebuild My Injector Pump...

So I am thinking about trying to do my own injector pump reseal - first timer on this. My current one leaks and needs resealed and I don't want to pay $600 to have it done somewhere. So I read the sticky and the picture tutorial of the guy who did his own. Anything else I should know? Common pitfalls to avoid, etc? Does anyone have exploded diagrams or any other docs on them?

I am thinking about buying a used one out of the scrap yard and rebuilding it, that way I if screw up at least it wont take the truck out of service and it will allow me to have a spare on hand. Anything I need to know as far as different versions of the pump, how do I make sure I got the right one, etc? Are they all the same, or are there some numbers I should be checking, etc? Better yet, anyone have a core they want to let go cheap? What should I expect to pay for a used one at the bone yard?

Just about anything I could find on the VE-pump has a link somewhere in this thread :

There should be a link to a rebuild DVD/BOOK in there somewhere, as well as 1st Gen545's excellent pictorial on a reseal.

Hope this helps.

So... where do I pick up a cheap one to practice on?

Also, this identification plate that they speak of, can this be seen while the pump is installed?

i know were a couple are, depends on what you want, just a replacement or something already built that you can swap out when needed.

Well, I'd like to buy a dead one and rebuild it. Once thats done (and I haven't screwed it up), I'll put it on and then rebuild the one that is currently on there and either put it on the shelf or sell it (probably put it on the shelf). So yeah, I want to avoid sending in a core or doing an exchange. So I guess that would be a replacement. My current one still works, but its leaking and making a mess.

I was just gonna pay someone to put seals in, but everywhere I have gone for labor and all they are trying to get me for $600 to $700 and thats BS for putting seals in something. For that kinda money, I can bite the bullet, pay what I have to for a second pump and learn how to do it myself. The information seems to be out there and there is no reason why I cant do it, I just don't wanna take the pump off the truck and put the truck out of service for three weeks while I stumble through the rebuild process.
