12V Rebuild-Ready to start
Hi,
I just finished rebuilding the engine in my 96 and am ready to start it tomorrow, just need a belt and both radiator hoses. BTW these things are **** heavy, had to get an OTC stand from my FIL to hold it, but everything went smoothly so far. My question is how can I prelube this thing, I've built a number of gassers and always used a drill down the distributor hole, but not here. Can I hold the shutoff solenoid up and crank it for 20 seconds or so, or is there a better way, or should I just fire it up. All cylinders are coated with STP and Rotella, plus assembly lube on the bearings and cam. Anything else I need to think about here?
Thanks for any advice.

hi
fill the oil filter with oil , use a 10/40 non synthetic oil for break in and drain it after break in is compleat. thin oil gets ther fast for lubracation !
keep rpm up around 1500 for 1st 1/2 hour ,no slow idle !

Thanks for the advice. It's running, and well. The shutdown won't pull up unless I do it manually, and it's blowing starter fuses so I guess I better pull the starter and put new contacts in it. My guess is with good compression the starter is working alot harder. Still need the tranny and TC, which I'll do tomorrow. Overall, not a hard engine to overhaul, just heavy and tight space.
