That is what I read before I put new seals in my pump. It is close enough to get the job done. If I had found that some hard parts were toast inside, I would have had to go to a pump shop, but my pump was pretty good inside, and I got to tweak the torque curve on the engine a little bit while I was in there. I posted about the operation about a year ago. The truck is still running well.

Wink Here Is Another Good One

http://pics.tdiclub.com/data/3555/Bo..._pump_head.pdf

I am assuming that where these four-cylinder pumps have four slots in the pump-shaft, four humps in the cam-plate, four rollers, and a four-notched cross, etc., our pumps should have SIX, RIGHT ??

Here is a picture of the "crow-foot" that the sticky says we need for line removal :

And here is the weird-looking flare-nut-socket :

Our pumps only have four rollers -- they just aren't evenly spaced at 90 degrees as are the 4 cyl. version -- that the six cam humps ride on. Otherwise, you are right on.

I have neither of those special tools, BTW. The only special tool I think is necessary is the S-wrench to get to that stupid bottom nut on the IP to timing case flange.

To remove the three sided "tamper resistant" Bosch hardware, I use a 12pt socket with solid copper wire jammed in it to grab the three-sided head. I had intended to grind out a 6pt socket to make a special tool, but the copper wire worked well.

Question Difference In Pumps ??

According to this source, there are two seperate 1st Gen. injection pumps.

VE205 on intercooled.

VE184 on non-intercooled.

http://www.dieselcare.net/DODGEPRODUCTS.html

How do they differ ??

What would be the outcome of switching them between engines ??

For instance, a 205-pump is installed where a 184-pump was original, or vice-versa.

Thanks.

The throttle levers are slightly different, the AFC lever pivot pin is retained by different methods, the fuel screw has a hex head on the 205 pump, and the delivery valve holders are longer on the 184 pump. They are interchangeable for all practical purposes. I have a 184 top on my 205 pump.

Can it be determined which pump by looking at the identification-plate on the pump-body ??

Will it say 184 or 205 ??

Thanks.
