getrag tranny problems

getrag tranny problems

hey guys, i am new to this so please help...just put new bearings in the tranny, now i drove it, the longer i drove the worse it got, till it got stuck in fourth gear and smoke was coming out the shifter...

My guess would be you got it shimmed too tight, but that's just a guess...

what oil and how much did you put in? I'm going to go with possibly Bearings too tight as well.

i had a bearing noise for a while, i finally got time to do this...we took it apart, cleaned it replaced all bearings, and seals, i also replaced the nose cone due to the bearing was turning in the case, yes i know that is not good, but try to work with not one single person in the area that has no clue on these....thanks guy for the input.....i put 5w30 havaline, around 4qts

So was the front bearing race a tight fit in the case? If not i'll bet it spun again. The tranny i'm running now, the front race spun in the case, so I had the machine shop mill the hole out and put a sleeve in the case and pin it, so there was a good fit for the race. Actually I think they made it too tight of a fit but its better than too loose!

it was not tight, i had to center punch to hold it tight,i think my problem is in the 3,4 gear syncro, cause when i took thtrans out i could not turn just the imput shaft
